Location:

Calendar:

Well known historian, David (Dougal) Henshaw will talk about how word of the victory at Trafalgar plus the death of Nelson was brought back to the Admiralty….via Falmouth!

There were other ships carrying news from Trafalgar, but HMS Pickle was first to arrive.

  • Dougal is best known as a dinghy historian. Born in Southampton in the early 1950s, he grew up as part of a family that spent the summers just messing around in boats on the Hamble River and Southampton Water..
  • After taking early retirement from the telecommunications industry, Dougal was able to combine his love of sailing with the development of a new career focused on journalism and charting the history of the racing dinghy.
  • He spends his winter giving talks at many sailing clubs as well as spells on cruise ships. He also presents at the RYA Dinghy Exhibition. Dougal has published three books, detailing the history of the International Contender, the Merlin Rocket, and the 505. He now lives on the south side of the Isle of Wight.
