ABOUT CLUB CRUISING
CLUB CRUISING AT THE RCYC
Many members actively cruise their boats, near or far; day sailing to ocean crossing. For the ocean crossers we have some members who are also members of the Ocean Cruising Club and anyone contemplating an ocean crossing should take advantage of this local source of experience.
For most of us, cruising range and experience is constrained by age, family, money, preference, or lack of a boat. For many, cruising is a “chance to get away on our own or with the kids”, and has kept us sane during stressful times, for others it is a time to meet friends. There is no single reason we go off in our boats; and indeed we often wonder, at times of strong wind and rain, why we are doing it at all.
MEANDERING
A weekly sociable day sail. It’s an opportunity to meet people, explore our local creeks and anchorages, get a days sailing whether or not you have a boat, or build sailing experience. It’s a Royal Cornwall speciality. and has been described as “ Last of the Summer Wine for Sailors”. But who is Foggy, Nora Batty or Compo? Check it out.
RCYC CRUISING
There is a monthly programme of 2-3 day cruises to local harbours with one longer cruise of about a week. It is organised to be inclusive and welcoming, to recognise the wide range of boats and levels of experience and confidence of skippers with pre-cruise briefings and the option to cruise in company. Flexibility, adaptability and enjoyment are the key.
We hope one or both of these may appeals or fit your needs as a new, old or prospective member.
CRUISING TROPHIES
The RCYC cruising trophies are:
- Holman Cup for the best log by club member
- Vage Flagon for the voyage of most merit by club member
Nominations are judged by a panel of experienced cruisers and awarded at the AGM in April.
All members are welcome to join our cruising programme. Over the years, the cruising members have met in locations as far afield as the Golfe du Morbihan, South Brittany and Loch Scavaig, Isle of Skye.
