Anne and Liz Hammick sailed the first leg of AZAB 1987 in their Rustler 31 but, instead of returning, remained to explore the Azores before heading south to Madeira and the Cape Verde islands. Along the way Anne started writing the first edition of ATLANTIC ISLANDS on a rusty portable typewriter.
By the 7th (current) edition she had passed on responsibility for the Azores and the Canaries, but spent most of December 2019 travelling around the Cape Verde islands armed with digital cameras and a very small computer. In March 2020 she flew down to visit Madeira for the eighth time, returning two days ahead of the first Covid lockdown.
