RCYC Men’s Dinner
March 21 at 7:00 pm
The Men’s Dinner is one of the Club’s oldest traditions, stemming from 1872 and held continuously apart from interruptions during the War years until 2020, when it had to be cancelled because of lockdown. Other factors have worked against it since, but now it is being revived.
Our principal guest and speaker, Sir Robert Owen, is a retired High Court Judge, a sailor and a past President of the International 6-Metre Association.
Sir Robert was appointed a Justice of the High Court in January 2001, receiving the customary knighthood, and assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division from 2005 to 2008. He served as a presiding judge for the Western Circuit and has been a member of the Judicial College board since 2011.
He chaired the 2015 inquiry into the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko which found that two Russians were responsible for the assassination and that there was a strong probability that they were acting under the direction of the FSB, and that their actions were probably approved by Vladimir Putin.
